Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska with a
population of approximately 260,000. Although it is a small city
in comparison to cities nationwide, you will find the same amenities
that you would find in major metropolitan areas. Anchorage offers
a wide range of things to do. Whether your taste is for fast food
or fine dining, Anchorage can satisfy your craving. You can go
to a movie at one of the many multiplex theaters or enjoy an opera
at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
If hunting or fishing is your forte`, Alaska is
the place for you.
You
can fish for Salmon right in Anchorage after work or take a three
hour drive for some of the best halibut and salmon fishing in
the world. The world renowned Kenai Peninsula is a short 15 minute
flight or three hour drive from Anchorage. Only an hour away is
the Matanuska Valley and its thousands of lakes and rivers that
are filled with many species of fish including salmon.
Wildlife
is abundant in the state as well. Most Anchorage residents have
experienced moose in their backyards. Although you cannot hunt
in the city, you don't have to go far. You can find all the rules
and regulations for fishing and hunting at the Fish and Game web
site as well as a wealth of other information.
